Elisabeth Maier’s Earthship AirBnB

Looking out from the earthship

Stay in an earthship in Carson! Elisabeth Maier offers a private room with one bedroom for up to two guests. $70 a night for one person, $80 for two people, plus a one-time cleaning fee of $20. Click here for more detailed information and to book.

The house is forty minutes’ drive southwest of Taos, and 25 minutes from Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, and about two miles on a dirt road from the Carson Post Office. The small guest room in the earthship is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Elisabeth is always happy to tell you the history of the building and show you the water catchment and solar system.

Elisabeth’s earthship is a rammed-earth home, solar powered and off the grid with lightning fast fibre optic internet connection. Massive walls keep the temperature comfortable, electricity comes from solar panels and water comes from the deep well. Elisabeth’s garden is irrigated with rain water and fertilized with homemade compost, and her earthship home captures the sun and stars through floor to ceiling windows, from which you can see the pinon and juniper trees, birds and other animals.

There is one small guestroom with a comfortable flip down couch bed, which measures 50 x 70 inches (130 x 175cm) and will sleep two. You will share the bathroom, which has a sink and shower. There is a separate toilet with another sink. In the living room there is a pullout couch bed that can accommodate a third person for which there is an additional charge of $40.00 per night.

The kitchen has a stove, refrigerator, micro wave, toaster and all the cooking supplies. You may also bring food, store it in the refrigerator and cook yourself. Guests may use the kitchen, get comfortable in the living room, and play with the dogs.

The nightly rate includes a light breakfast, and a home cooked dinner is available by prior arrangement at a cost. The closest Restaurant is thirty minutes away. Since Elisabeth lives in the house, she likes to eat breakfast (and dinner if you order it) with her guests and converse a bit. Elisabeth is from Switzerland originally and speaks English, German, French and Spanish.
