Post Office Paper Recycling

The Carson Community Association (CCA) started collecting wastepaper at the Carson Post Office for recycling at a time when the Post Office staff indicated that they would send wastepaper to landfill. CCA purchased the plastic collection crates into which Carson residents can deposit junk mail that they pick up from their post office boxes. Peter Allen and Paul Green have been taking the crates of wastepaper to the recycle depot in Taos as a voluntary service to the community.

As a member of the Carson community you can help this process in a couple of ways.

  1. If you are going into Taos or past one of the County’s transfer stations at Pilar or Ojo Caliente, consider taking a crate of wastepaper for recycling at the appropriate collection points.
  2. Please don’t add your personal recycling to the CCA crate in the Post Office. CCA provides the collection crates for the community’s benefit so that you don’t need to take junk mail home with you. When you add your personal recycling, it places an additional burden on the volunteers who have to lift these heavy crates and empty them more often.

Please note the revised hours during the Covid-19 pandemic for the following:

  • Taos Recycling Station, 201 Bertha Road — Wednesdays and Thursdays, 7.00 am to 4.30 pm
  • Taos County Transfer Stations — Tuesday through Saturday, 8.00 am to 4.00 pm
