A Lifetime of Artistic Achievement
Artist Harry Vedoe may now be the longest-living person in Carson. He will be 90 years old on New Year's Eve, 2019. Harry was born in 1929 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has worked as a graphic and industrial designer, book illustrator, photographer and writer for magazines and newspapers. He has been a resident of the United States since 1978, and since then he has worked as a commercial graphic artist and editorial cartoonist for newspapers. For many years Harry was editorial cartoonist for The Taos News. He and his wife, Noreen, have lived in Taos for 33 years, including 17 years in Carson.
Throughout his long career, Harry has developed a distinctive style that combines elements of Scandinavian design with the influences of the Southwestern landscape. His work often explores the interplay between color and form, creating compositions that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant.

Artistic Journey and Influences
Harry's artistic journey began in Denmark, where he studied design and illustration before establishing himself as a professional artist. His early work was influenced by European modernism, particularly the clean lines and functionality of Scandinavian design. After moving to the United States in 1978, his aesthetic evolved to incorporate the dramatic landscapes and cultural diversity of the American Southwest.
Harry's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout New Mexico, and his editorial cartoons have chronicled the social and political landscape of Taos County for decades. His artistic contributions have made him a beloved figure in the local art community.

Life in Carson
Since moving to Carson 17 years ago, Harry has become an integral part of the community. Despite his advanced age, he maintains an active lifestyle, regularly cycling through the Carson landscape and finding inspiration in its natural beauty. The rugged terrain and dramatic skies of northern New Mexico continue to influence his artistic output.
Harry is known among his neighbors not only for his artistic talents but also for his storytelling abilities and generous spirit. He frequently shares tales of his experiences in Denmark, his adventures in America, and his observations of how Carson has evolved over the nearly two decades he has called it home.
