About the Bookmobile Service

The New Mexico State Library Bookmobile Service visits Carson once a month, parking its state-of-the-art truck at the Carson Fire Station for one hour (from June) 45 minutes . The bookmobile carries a good selection of books to cater to a wide range of interests, from best-selling non-fiction and fiction to a whole section devoted to the southwest including New Mexico.

This valuable service brings library resources directly to rural communities across New Mexico, making literature and information accessible to residents who might otherwise have limited access to library facilities. The bookmobile is equipped with the latest titles and serves as a mobile branch of the State Library.

Importance of Community Participation

Please remember that your participation in the bookmobile program is extremely important to the existence of the program. Whether Carson continues to remain on the bookmobile route depends on user numbers. If interest and visitor numbers decline, Carson could stop receiving bookmobile visits. So please make an effort to drop by and check out a book or two.

Your regular visits help demonstrate the value of this service to our community. The State Library evaluates usage statistics when planning routes and stops, so each visit and book checkout directly supports keeping this resource available to Carson residents.

Usage Guidelines

The bookmobile service reminds patrons that all books checked out from the bookmobile must be returned to the bookmobile – (not to other libraries). They also ask that overdue books be returned as soon as possible in person or through a neighbor or friend.

Library cards issued by the New Mexico State Library are valid at the bookmobile. New patrons can register for a library card directly at the bookmobile during any scheduled stop. Please bring identification with your current address to register.
