The CCA’s annual Fall Festival fundraising event took place on Sunday October 8th and, this year, it was combined with the last Carson Sunday Market of the season.
We had perfect weather on the day and participants enjoyed great music from the Foggy Memory Boys, a bluegrass band formed around late night jams at the prestigious Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival, blending traditional bluegrass roots music and more contemporary styles. CCA Board Member Jenn Sawyer was responsible for this great booking, and CCA underwrote $500 of the cost of the booking.
Rob Hughes once again organized the site for the day, with Jenn Sawyer overseeing the Sunday Market setup. The the Kid’s Corner was run by Jessica Winter Hawe and included activities such as face painting and pumpkin carving. There were also games, including ring toss, darts and balloons, and sack races. Jasmine, Moon, and Isis ran these games. The CCA Board thanks the many community members who went the extra mile to organize and run the many activities at the festival, both behind the scenes before the event as well as on the day.
CCA Treasurer Traci McCall and Vicky Howard were cashiers in charge of raffle and activity ticket sales. CCA Board Member and Carson Cafe Manager Jeff Holland, and CCA’s Vice-President and Fire Chief Scott Freeman took charge of the grill, cooking the food with help from CVFD’s Lieutenant Ellery Collins. The BBQ remained busy through the day and raised $431. Sharon Wilbur and Vicki Lindsay again organized and ran the always popular Bake Sale which raised $272.
All in all, the event grossed $2392, raising $1643 after expenses for CCA, after expenses. About $1400 came from raffle ticket sales. CCA thanks the various community members who helped to solicit some great prizes worth nearly $3500 in value, the star prize being a balloon ride for two people from Rio Grande Balloons. CCA also thanks the volunteers, including board and community members who sold about half the raffle tickets before the event; Vicki Lindsay and Jeff Holland were the lead sellers. Eng-Li and Paul Green were responsible for general oversight of the raffle, and Jeff Holland took the lead on raising prizes and also on purchasing food for the event.
The CCA Board thanks all the community members who turned out for the event and helped to make it a great success.
